About
I started as a journalist on west London papers before going to China for several months in 1983 when it had just opened its doors to foreign independent travel.
When I got back my camera was my career as I started selling some of my China pictures.
But I also needed a steady income so dived into the world of photo comics (Jackie, Patches, My Guy) where I honed my photo skills and gained great experience in logistics.
I recruited models from youth clubs, schools and drama colleges, found locations and organised transport and wardrobe: and all on a shoe string budget.
Through this I started a long association with the NHS, covering a range of medical procedures as well as VIP visits (Prime Minister David Cameron, RH Princess Anne- I was the sole approved photographer).
I still had the wanderlust so worked for the trade paper, Travel News and got commissions from tour operators to photograph their resorts.
Then I got into women’s magazines (Bella, Best, Me, Chat, Take a Break and Women’s Journal) again sourcing models to illustrate articles.
Occasionally I indulged my quirky side and did features (words and photos) for The Illustrated London News such as the Collectors “OF” Letterboxes and the last bridge master to actually live on Tower Bridge.
Then through a contact I got some celebrity sittings (Salman Rushdie, Sir Richard Rogers, Alan Yentob) which got me commissions on the Sunday Supplements for the Independent on Sunday and the Sunday Times. And occasionally I also supplied photos to the Mail, Express, Times and Telegraph.
And for one night only, a commission from Vogue magazine.
But for a while I was getting regular commissions from TV Times and Radio Times which tied up nicely with work for the BBC and Chanel Four.
To keep myself in shape I got into fitness magazines and tours(just doing the pictures) and did the photos for the bestselling book, Body Control, as Pilates hit the UK in its abdominals.
When we had triplets I naturally worked for baby magazines (Babycare and Pregnancy, Prima Baby) using the mum’s network to again secure models for a whole range of articles.
Practically throughout my career I have been supplying lots of lifestyle photos to picture agencies like Camera Press which publish them around the world.
Most recently I have been working for the inspirational speaker Sonia Brown who has been doing long term projects with the Met Police and Royal Bank of Scotland.
